CTE Gives Back! - February 2020

With February branded as the “month of love” and Valentine’s Day its most celebrated day, CTE is happy to make its monthly charitable contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association.  As Alzheimer’s is truly a disease that impacts particularly older people who perhaps have enjoyed many years of marriage with love and commitment, facing this disease together perhaps may truly be the hardest challenge a couple can face.  The disease and its impact on the patient and family are horrible and the challenge presented to the caregiver (often the spouse) is heart wrenching as he/she watches his/her mate “die twice”.  What a great and final gift of love that spouse gives during the course of the disease.  And if it is a child (as is often the case) who is the caregiver and must provide that care, the love, patience, and resources required are immense!  

To highlight this organization, the Alzheimer’s Association was founded in 1980 as a not for profit 501©(3) and throughout the past 40 years has worn the hat as the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Check out the following facts and figures regarding this disease that is currently the 6th leading cause of death in the United States:

• • 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and by 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million

• • Every 65 seconds someone in the US develops the disease

• • More than 16 million Americans provide unpaid care for those living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia – accounting for 18.5 billion hours valued at nearly $234 billion

• • 82% of seniors say having regular cognitive assessments is important but only 16% get them done
