CTE Gives Back! November 2021

MILITARY WORKING DOG TEAM SUPPORT ASSOCIATION

MWDTSA

November 11 – Veteran’s Day – Truly a day when we pay our respect for those who have served.  We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.  We salute each and every one of our veterans.

As we stand united in respect and thanks to our veterans, there is another group deserving recognition and thanks for supporting our military throughout the decades:  military working dog teams.

These teams have truly been “force multipliers” and “sensor systems” for the military and are deployed worldwide.  Their focus is on force protection – explosives and weapons detection, search and rescue, tracking, patrol, security, and drug detection.

It is with pleasure that we have selected the non-profit Military Working Dog Team Support Association (MWDTSA) as the November 2021 recipient of our charity dollars from the CTE Gives Back! Program.  This all-voluntary 501 (c)(3) nonprofit actually “supports both ends of the leash”.  It was co-founded in 2006 by Vietnam Veteran dog handler Ken Besecker and German Shepherd Dog enthusiast Dixie Whitman.  The unique mission of MWDTSA is to support active-duty service members and their K9s and to honor retired handlers and dogs.  More than 97% of all donated funds have gone directly to support these missions.

Since its founding, over 8,000 care packages with a content value of over $1,200,000 have been sent to MWD teams.  In addition to the sending of the care packages, volunteers visit home station military kennels to distribute comfort and morale boosting gifts, honor active duty and retired canine handlers and K9, and conduct events to educate about the significant roles these teams provide for our country.
