CTE Gives Back! November 2022

BREAD OF LIFE – CLARENDON, TEXAS

“While Clarendon, Texas of Donley County may be part of one of the fifth poorest counties in Texas, there is nowhere else I would choose to live.  This town is comprised of people who continually step up to help others.”  Those were the words spoken by katherine Monroe, Founder of Bread of Life Food Pantry, an organization providing food boxes to so many in this small community in the Texas panhandle.

The Bread of Life organization, housed in the First United Methodist Church in Clarendon, has been helping and utilizing services to help others secure “food for life” since 2012.  It started with the preparation of food boxes to feed 30 families and in the past ten years has grown to where 200 families receive food boxes every other week.

Katherine has been the one at the helm for the selection of healthy and nutritious food with the box contents being nearly 100% healthy protein, fruits, and vegetables.   Most purchases for the contents come from the High Plains Food Bank to take advantage of its purchasing power as well as from donations or food surpluses from other outlets.

100% of any donations received go directly to the food boxes as Bread of Life is manned exclusively by volunteers.  A vast majority of those picking up the food boxes for their sustenance make up a big segment of the volunteer team working together every two weeks.

At Thanksgiving these volunteers shared in the joy of preparing 180 meals and are now planning another food event during the holidays in addition to their bimonthly distribution.

It has been said that “the joy that we get brings joy to the heart of the giver” and Bread of Life brings such joy and sustenance every other Monday in the Texas panhandle to volunteers and residents alike.  It is with a heart of giving that we at Cable Tie Express are directing our November charity dollars to Bread of Life.
