While water is something that nearly all of us in the United States take for granted on a daily basis, it’s astonishing to think that globally 785 million people – 1 in 9 - live without safe access to water and 2 billion people – 1 in 3 - live without improved sanitation! And now as all are facing the impacts of Covid 19, it is even more critical to the health of families worldwide to have access to safe water.
Water.org, an international nonprofit organization with a 25 year history, has positively transformed literally millions of lives around the world with safe water and sanitation through affordable financing. The organization has worked with corporations and partners to create access for financing, such as small loans, for those who need it most.
Empowering more than 30 million people in 13 countries on 4 continents worldwide, Water.org has helped to turn problems into potential in several distinct areas:
Improved health – Access to safe water improves health, prevents the spread of infectious disease, reduces mortality rates, and reduces physical injury that often occurs in carrying heavy water loads.
Women’s empowerment – With safe water at home, women are able to pursue more than water collection.
Education and Economic Potential – Reduction in water collection times enables time for education and the opportunity for a better future.
