AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS (ASPCA)
As is often said, a dog is “man’s best friend” and certainly for so many from coast to coast that rings true as dog’s and other animals occupy a most special spot in many households. However, it’s amazing how many dogs and animals are victims of cruelty and because of that, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, better known as the ASPCA, was established over 150 years ago by Mr. Henry Bergh. It was the first humane society in North America and today remains one of the largest in the world.

MILITARY WORKING DOG TEAM SUPPORT ASSOCIATION
November 11 – Veteran’s Day – Truly a day when we pay our respect for those who have served. We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. We salute each and every one of our veterans.
As we stand united in respect and thanks to our veterans, there is another group deserving recognition and thanks for supporting our military throughout the decades: military working dog teams.
These teams have truly been “force multipliers” and “sensor systems” for the military and are deployed worldwide. Their focus is on force protection – explosives and weapons detection, search and rescue, tracking, patrol, security, and drug detection.

Safety is and always needs to be a top priority among everyone – men, women, children – and for all races, genders, and nationalities. One organization which truly recognizes that need in the Hamilton County area in Indiana is Prevail. Its vision is one of having a safe community; however, when crime and abuse occur, a compassionate and restorative response is essential.
Founded in 2008, Prevail exists with a powerful mission statement: “Prevail strives to empower victims of crime and abuse on their path to healing, while engaging the community to support safe, healthy relationships.”

ALL HANDS AND HEARTS
Natural disasters certainly seem to be occurring with greater frequency and intensity each year. With Hurricane Ida being forefront in the news recently as the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana, it seems only fitting that our CTE Gives Back! dollars this month be directed to All Hands and Hearts, a 501 (c) nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of global communities impacted by natural disasters.
CTE Gives Back! August 2021
As so many of us continue to enjoy the many summer activities involving muscle movement such as biking, running, walking, and a myriad of summer sports, there are thousands of people unable to enjoy those pleasures due to their suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by a loss of connection between the brain and the muscles. People suffering from ALS lose their ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe with the average life expectancy of those afflicted being 2-5 years. Typically, the disease strikes individuals between the ages of 40 and 70, affecting men more frequently than women, but it can afflict anyone at any time.

THE GREEN BERET FOUNDATION
With the month of May, we welcome the blossoming of spring flowers, celebrate motherhood on Mother’s Day, and wind up the month with Memorial Day. This Memorial Day holiday, observed to honor the men and women who died while serving in the US military, originated following the Civil War and became an official Federal holiday in 1971.
It seems fitting this month of May 2021 to salute through the CTE Gives Back Program, the Green Beret Foundation, an organization that supports one group of our military and America’s Premier Special Operations Force – Green Berets. Highly trained in counter terrorism, fluent in foreign languages, cultures and strategic operation tactics, on any given day the Green Berets are deployed in over 100 countries throughout the world. Compared to the rest of the military, on a per capita basis Green Berets sustain the highest casualty rate due to the nature of their mission and frequent deployments.
